About Miramichi Rural

Miramichi Rural School, with 68 students enrolled, is a vibrant and welcoming community where school spirit continues to grow each year. The shared energy among students and staff fosters an environment where achievements are celebrated, and pride in the school is evident. With the school motto, “Be A Shark, be be a Shark!” and its engaging mascot, Finn, the sense of unity and excitement is palpable, creating a positive atmosphere for all.
What sets Miramichi Rural School apart is the strong sense of community it cultivates. As a K-8 school, older students play a vital role in supporting and mentoring their younger peers, creating a culture of kindness, respect, and inclusion. Whether through buddy programs, helping in the hallways, or simply setting a good example, the positive interactions among students of all ages contribute to a warm and supportive environment. The school also boasts unique features such as an observatory, funded by an Innovation Grant, and murals painted by Allie Howe that reflect the school’s connection to the fishing community and its shark mascot. Additionally, the annual frog races provide students with an exciting and educational opportunity to learn about local wildlife and ecosystems while fostering a sense of community involvement.
